My Obsession

So, supposedly, I am "obsessed" with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  That's what most of my friends and family members think, but I want to take the time tonight to explain a little bit about why I can't get enough Buff.  (see what I did there?  enUFF bUFF?)

Anyway, my story starts where most do, at age twelve.  When I was in seventh grade, a friend of mine introduced me to the Buffyverse (the unique world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer).  I believe the first episode I ever saw was back when FX showed reruns every day at 5:00 pm.  It was the episode entitled "the Witch", the one where Buffy, Xander and Willow try to figure out what's going on with that bitch Amy and her deranged mother.  Of course, Buffy had been around for years already, and I had missed a great deal of the show because of two things; my mom and dad.

I was never allowed to watch television unless it was something on the Disney Channel or 60 Minutes (don't even get me started).  Vampires, demons, and the forces of evil were just not acceptable viewing options for a twelve-year-old.  So, I had to be sneaky!  I used my amazing sense of cunning and watched Buffy every chance I got.  I couldn't get enough!  It was fabulous, everything I had always dreamed of my life being, but scarier!

I gave up on the Scoobies when the series ended and turned my attention to reality TV.  Grodesville, USA.  But recently another friend of mine let me borrow her collection of Buffy DVDs.  At first I was nervous, but then I realized something.  It's eight years later.  I'm twenty years old.  I don't have rules!  So, I watched and watched and watched.  It was like a fire had been lit inside me.  How had I lived through high school and the first two years of college without Giles' nervous sentiment, without Cordy's keen fashion sense and off-putting dialogue?  How had I survived without Willow's quirkiness and Xander's incredible dork powers?  I had been reunited with my old friends, and nothing was going to take them away from me again.

Okay, I know it sounds extreme, but that's how it happened.  Being without something for such a long time, and then finding it again, can make one love that something WAY more.  It's like wind in a fire.  If the fire is small, the wind can put it out, but if the fire is real and big and strong, the wind can help it grow.  Besides, I'm fully aware of the fact that I'm a big dork.

But, I'm rich and sexy, so all you haters can suck it.
